Chapter 2 – A Web of Lies

Chapter 2 – A Web of Lies

Police obtained search warrants before sunrise.

Margaret's office.

Her private safe.

Her personal laptop.

Every secret she'd hidden for years slowly surfaced.

Inside the safe sat three sealed envelopes.

Each contained a different version of Ava's will.

Every version transferred her fortune...

To Ethan.

If Ethan died...

Everything passed directly to Margaret.

Detective Collins frowned.

"These signatures are forged."

A handwriting expert confirmed it within hours.

None belonged to Ava.

But another discovery shocked everyone even more.

An old insurance policy.

It had been updated...

Only two weeks before the crash.

Beneficiary:

Margaret Lawson.

Life insurance payout:

Twenty-five million dollars.

Ethan stared at the paperwork in disbelief.

"You insured my wife?"

Margaret folded her arms.

"I was helping with estate planning."

No one believed her.

Meanwhile...

Forensic testing revealed the pills inside the vitamin bottle contained powerful sedatives.

Not enough to kill.

Just enough to cloud memory...

Slow reactions...

And make Ava appear mentally unstable.

Doctors reviewed months of medical records.

Her worsening confusion.

Her constant exhaustion.

Her sudden memory loss.

None of it had been caused by her spinal injury.

It had been drug-induced.

The realization devastated Ethan.

He had watched his wife fade away...

Believing her condition was unavoidable.

Then Lena revealed one final secret.

She handed detectives an old flash drive.

"I've been hiding this."

On the screen appeared security footage recorded by Lena's own phone months earlier.

Margaret stood outside Ava's bedroom.

Speaking quietly into her phone.

"If Ethan thinks she's losing her mind, conservatorship will be easy."

She smiled.

"Once the paperwork is signed, she'll never control another dollar."

Detective Collins looked at Ethan.

"This establishes financial motive."

Margaret's confidence finally crumbled.

She attempted to leave the estate.

Police stopped her at the front gate.

"I'm not under arrest."

"You are now."

Handcuffs clicked around her wrists.

She glared at Ethan.

"You'll regret this."

His voice remained calm.

"No."

He looked toward Ava.

"I already regret trusting you."

As Margaret was driven away...

Years of manipulation finally began collapsing behind her.
