No one spoke.
Not a single person.
The dining room that had been filled with laughter seconds earlier now felt like a courtroom awaiting a verdict.
Brendan stared at me.
His smile vanished.
"What did he just call you?" he asked.
The head of security didn't answer.
Instead, Arthur entered the room.
My Chief Legal Officer carried a thick black folder under his arm.
The sight alone made several executives straighten nervously.
Arthur walked directly to me.
Then handed me a towel.
A simple gesture.
Yet it carried more respect than Brendan's family had shown me in years.
"Cassidy," Arthur said quietly. "All documents are prepared."
Diane finally found her voice.
"This is ridiculous," she snapped. "There must be some mistake."
Arthur turned toward her.
"There is no mistake."
He opened the folder.
"Five years ago, Mrs. Cassidy Sterling established Sterling Global Holdings through a private trust structure."
He placed several documents on the table.
"The trust owns eighty-two percent of the parent corporation."
Jessica frowned.
"What does that even mean?"
Arthur looked at her.
"It means she owns everything."
The room seemed to tilt.
Brendan grabbed the papers.
His eyes scanned the signatures.
The ownership percentages.
The board authorizations.
The voting rights.
His face drained of color.
"No."
He looked at me.
"No, this can't be real."
I simply met his gaze.
The same way I had for years.
Only now he was finally seeing me.
Not as the woman he divorced.
Not as the target of his family's cruelty.
But as the person who had quietly built the empire beneath their feet.
Arthur continued.
"Effective immediately, all executive privileges granted to the Sterling family have been revoked."
Diane gasped.
Brendan stood.
"You can't do that!"
"I already did," I replied.
