Chapter 2: The Boardroom Collapse

Chapter 2: The Boardroom Collapse

The Escalante Tower was never supposed to feel cold.

But that night, it did.

Security bowed as I stepped through the private entrance. Elevators opened instantly—no delays, no verification prompts. My access was still absolute.

For now.

By the time I reached the executive floor, the boardroom was already full.

Twenty-three directors.

Lawyers.

Financial auditors.

And at the head of the table—

My father.

He didn’t smile. He never did when business was involved.

“Mariana,” he said simply. “It’s done.”

I nodded and sat down.

On the far end of the table, the screen displayed live alerts:

Andrew’s company accounts: LOCKED

Personal credit lines: REVOKED

Joint assets: UNDER REVIEW

Offshore holdings tied to marital structure: SEALED

One of the directors cleared his throat. “There’s resistance from internal management. A Mr. Andrew Carter is demanding authorization reversal.”

A faint silence followed.

Then my father looked at me.

“Do you want to handle this personally?”

I paused.

And for the first time that night, I almost smiled again.

“Yes,” I said. “Put him through.”

A second later, Andrew’s face appeared on the screen.

He looked nothing like the man who had slapped me hours earlier.

No arrogance.

No audience.

Just confusion turning into panic.

“Mariana!” he snapped. “What the hell is this? My accounts are frozen! My legal team says you did this—”

I leaned back slightly. “No, Andrew. We did this. You just never paid attention to who ‘we’ was.”

His jaw tightened. “Turn it back on. Whatever this stunt is—stop it now.”

Behind him, I could hear voices. Chaos. Someone yelling about payroll failure. Another about frozen vendor payments.

The empire was shaking.

And he could feel it.

Margaret’s voice suddenly cut in from off-screen, sharp and broken. “Mariana, this is insane! You’re destroying your own family!”

I tilted my head.

“My family?” I repeated softly. “You meant the one that slapped me? Or the one that called me trash while stealing from me?”

Silence.

Brenda appeared beside Andrew now, her confidence gone, mascara slightly smudged.

“This is a misunderstanding,” she said quickly. “We can fix this. We didn’t mean—”

I cut her off.

“You didn’t mean to build your entire life on something you didn’t own?”

Andrew stepped forward, voice rising again. “You think you can ruin me? After everything I gave you?”

That did it.

I stood up.

And the entire boardroom went quiet.

“Everything you gave me?” I echoed.

Then I looked straight into the camera.

“You gave me humiliation. A slap. And a lesson I should’ve learned earlier.”

I leaned closer.

“But I gave you everything else.”

I tapped the table once.

And the final trigger executed.

Across the system, a single command rolled out:

TRANSFER OF CONTROL: COMPLETE

Andrew’s face froze as his access vanished in real time.

His company logo on the screen changed.

From Carter Holdings…

Back to Escalante Global.

His breathing grew heavier. “No… no, this is not possible—”

May you like

“It was never yours,” I said quietly.

And I ended the call.
