Chapter 2: The Fall Happening in Real Time

Chapter 2: The Fall Happening in Real Time

“She's bluffing.”

Gordon forced out the words.

Nobody believed him.

Not even Stephanie.

His phone buzzed.

Then buzzed again.

And again.

He checked the screen.

Three declined transactions.

Two frozen accounts.

One urgent notice from his financial advisor.

The color drained from his face.

“This can't be happening.”

But it was.

Across the pool, several guests quietly checked their own phones.

Videos were already spreading online.

The mighty Gordon Pierce losing everything at his own party.

One guest whispered:

“Wait... Amanda owns the house?”

Another answered:

“She owns all of it.”

Stephanie slowly removed her arm from Gordon's.

“Amanda, maybe we should talk privately.”

I almost laughed.

Five minutes earlier she had called me a machine.

Now she wanted a conversation.

“No,” I said calmly.

“You seemed comfortable humiliating me publicly.”

The crowd shifted uncomfortably.

Nobody wanted to be associated with Gordon anymore.

The same people who had toasted him an hour ago were now stepping away from him.

Then Richard's voice returned.

“One final matter, Amanda. The prenup clause has been activated.”

Gordon froze.

“What clause?”

I smiled.

The clause he had never bothered reading.

The clause that stated any spouse found using marital assets to support an extramarital relationship forfeited every financial benefit connected to the marriage.

Every gift.

Every property privilege.

Every account access.

Everything.

The lawyer standing near the entrance nodded.

“It is fully enforceable.”

Stephanie's eyes widened.

Gordon looked as though someone had punched him.

Because they hadn't just lost money.

May you like

They had lost the future they thought belonged to them.

And everyone was watching.
