Chapter 2: Two Daughters, One Mother
The following days were painful.
News of the scandal spread throughout the city.
Reporters surrounded the company headquarters.
Business partners questioned what would happen next.
But the woman ignored them all.
She focused on only two people.
Lily and Sophia.
One afternoon, she invited both girls to her home.
The atmosphere was tense.
Neither girl knew where to sit.
Neither knew what to say.
Finally, the woman spoke.
"I lost eighteen years with Lily."
Tears filled her eyes.
"But Sophia..."
She turned toward the young woman she had raised.
"I loved you every single day of those eighteen years."
Sophia burst into tears.
"Then why does it feel like I'm losing my mother?"
The question broke everyone's heart.
The woman crossed the room and hugged her tightly.
"You are not losing me."
Sophia sobbed against her shoulder.
"But I'm not your real daughter."
The woman gently lifted her chin.
"Biology tells us who gave birth to us. Love tells us who raised us."
For the first time since the truth emerged, Sophia smiled through her tears.
Across the room, Lily quietly watched.
The woman extended her hand toward her.
"Come here."
Lily hesitated.
Then she slowly joined them.
Moments later, all three were crying in each other's arms.
