Chapter 1: The First Truth

Chapter 1: The First Truth

Daniel sat alone in the hospital waiting room, his laptop balanced on his knees. His hands trembled as the first hidden recording began to play.

The timestamp showed three months earlier.

Vanessa stood in the living room speaking with her younger brother, Eric.

"I can't wait until the old woman dies," Vanessa whispered. "Daniel already signed the power of attorney before he left. Once she's gone, everything passes to him... and eventually to us."

Eric smirked.

"So just keep her quiet."

Daniel clenched his fists.

The next clips were even worse.

Every day Vanessa confiscated his mother's medication, locked her bedroom door from the outside, and cut her meals in half.

Whenever Elena secretly brought food or medicine, Vanessa screamed at her, deducted her salary, or threatened to report her immigration papers—even though Elena was legally employed.

Then another recording appeared.

Late one evening, Elena quietly entered Daniel's mother's room.

She opened the blue sewing box.

Inside were several handwritten letters.

His mother looked weak but determined.

"If anything happens to me," she whispered, "give these to Daniel."

Elena nodded with tears in her eyes.

Daniel paused the video.

His mother had known.

She had been preparing for the day he finally came home.
