Chapter 2 – The Empire Behind the Storm
Within twenty-four hours, the world changed.
Every major financial news network reported the same headline.
STERLING INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES NEW CHAIRWOMAN.
The company owned ports, satellites, medical laboratories, renewable energy networks, and investment firms spanning more than sixty countries.
Its annual revenue exceeded the combined fortune of the Whitmore family hundreds of times over.
The Whitmores had believed themselves untouchable.
Now they discovered they had insulted the woman who controlled the loans keeping their businesses alive.
Inside Sterling Tower, Emily sat quietly in the executive boardroom.
No luxury impressed her.
No applause mattered.
Her daughter slept peacefully beside her.
The board members waited.
"Your first order, Chairwoman?"
Emily folded her hands.
"No revenge."
The room became still.
"We will follow every law."
She looked at the legal director.
"If the Whitmore companies obtained contracts through fraud, investigate them."
She turned to the ethics committee.
"If employees were abused, compensate them."
Finally she faced the finance division.
"If innocent workers lose their jobs because of executive corruption, create a protection fund."
The directors nodded immediately.
Meanwhile, panic consumed the Whitmore mansion.
Banks suspended credit.
Business partners canceled meetings.
Government investigators requested financial records.
Luxury disappeared almost overnight.
Mark rushed to Sterling Tower hoping to see Emily.
The receptionist calmly smiled.
"I'm sorry, sir."
"You don't have an appointment."
"I'm her husband!"
She checked the computer.
"Our Chairwoman has instructed us to recognize only legal relationships."
Mark froze.
A courier arrived beside him carrying a single envelope.
Inside were divorce papers.
