Chapter 1: Midnight Takeover

Chapter 1: Midnight Takeover
Marcus Bennett stood in the penthouse suite overlooking the glittering city.
Champagne flowed.
His mistress, Vanessa, raised a crystal glass with a triumphant smile.
"To new beginnings."
Marcus smirked.
"Tomorrow every newspaper will announce that Isabella Carter has finally disappeared."
He believed the hardest part was over.
The woman who had quietly stood beside him for eleven years was gone.
The empire was finally his.
Then his phone vibrated.
One message.
URGENT BOARD MEETING – Attendance Mandatory. Midnight.
Marcus frowned.
"What could possibly be so important?"
Vanessa laughed.
"Probably another celebration."
He entered the executive conference room forty minutes later.
Every board member was already seated.
No one smiled.
No one greeted him.
At the far end of the polished table stood a man Marcus had met only twice.
William Carter.
Isabella's father.
The billionaire investor Marcus believed owned only a minority share.
William didn't offer a handshake.
Instead, he slid a thick black folder across the table.
"Read page one."
Marcus opened it casually.
His smile vanished.
The first page wasn't a financial report.
It was the original ownership agreement signed eleven years earlier.
His own signature stared back at him.
Buried inside the legal language was a clause he had never bothered to read.
He had never been the owner.
He had only been appointed Chief Executive Officer.
Every hotel.
Every resort.
Every trademark.
Every piece of land.
Everything belonged to Carter Holdings.
Marcus looked up.
"This has to be fake."
William calmly pressed a button.
The large screen behind him lit up.
Original deeds.
Corporate registrations.
Bank authorizations.
Government filings.
Every document carried the same name.
Carter Holdings.
Then the conference room doors opened.
Isabella walked inside.
She wore the same navy suit she had been forced to leave in earlier that day.
Only now every executive stood as she entered.
Not one remained seated.
Marcus stared in disbelief.
"What is this?"
William answered for everyone.
"This..."
"...is the first board meeting you've ever attended as an employee."
Silence crushed the room.
Then Isabella placed a single envelope in front of Marcus.
"Your employment has been terminated."
"You are no longer authorized to represent this company."
The access badge hanging from his neck suddenly stopped working.
His company phone shut off.
His laptop locked itself.
Before he could speak...
Two security officers entered.
The same two men Marcus had ordered to throw Isabella out only hours before.
One of them spoke quietly.
"Mr. Bennett..."
"We've been instructed to escort you from the building."
May you like
For the first time in eleven years...
Marcus Bennett was the one being removed.
