Chapter 2: The Boy Who Loved Books

Chapter 2: The Boy Who Loved Books

The bakery owner was named Mrs. Harper.

She gave Ethan a warm meal.

Then another.

And another.

For days, she allowed him to sleep in a small storage room above the bakery.

Slowly, the fear in his eyes began to fade.

One evening, Mrs. Harper noticed something unusual.

While other children might have spent their free time playing games, Ethan sat beside the window reading an old newspaper.

Every page.

Every article.

Every word.

"You like reading?" she asked.

Ethan nodded.

"It's my favorite thing."

Mrs. Harper smiled.

The next morning she brought him to the public library.

The librarian quickly noticed Ethan's curiosity.

History.

Science.

Mathematics.

Literature.

He devoured books faster than most adults.

Within months, the staff realized something extraordinary.

The homeless boy possessed a brilliant mind.

Soon, a local charity arranged testing for him.

The results shocked everyone.

Ethan scored higher than nearly every student in the county.

Including many children attending Westbridge Academy.

The same academy he used to watch from across the street.

Word spread quickly.

Donors stepped forward.

Scholarships became available.

Then one afternoon, a letter arrived.

Mrs. Harper opened it with trembling hands.

Westbridge Academy had offered Ethan a full scholarship.

Tuition.

Books.

Uniforms.

Everything covered.

The boy who once searched through garbage for food was now being invited through the front gates.

Ethan stared at the acceptance letter.

Tears streamed down his face.

Not because he was proud.

But because for the first time in his life, someone believed he belonged somewhere.
