Chapter 3: A Family Rewritten

Chapter 3: A Family Rewritten

Two months later, labor began unexpectedly.

Elias was the first person I called.

He arrived at the hospital in less than ten minutes.

Terrified.

Breathless.

Completely panicked.

"Adelaide, breathe!"

"I'm a doctor," I snapped.

"I know how breathing works!"

A nurse laughed.

Even through the pain, I nearly did too.

Fourteen hours later, our son entered the world.

Healthy.

Perfect.

Beautiful.

Elias cried the moment he held him.

The tough businessman disappeared completely.

All that remained was a father staring at his child.

"What should we name him?" he whispered.

I smiled.

"Oliver."

He nodded.

"Oliver."

A familiar voice suddenly spoke from the doorway.

"Can I hold my brother?"

Sophie stood there clutching her rabbit.

When Elias placed Oliver into her arms, she looked down at him with complete wonder.

Then she said the words that made everyone in the room emotional.

"I've always wanted a family like this."

Silence filled the room.

Not painful silence.

Peaceful silence.

The kind that comes after a storm finally ends.

Months later, life looked very different.

There were sleepless nights.

Diapers.

Baby bottles.

School projects.

Chaos.

But there was also laughter.

Love.

And something we had almost lost forever.

A second chance.

One evening, while watching Sophie help Oliver take his first steps, Elias wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"I'm sorry for the man I was," he whispered.

I looked at our children.

At the home we had rebuilt.

At the future standing right in front of us.

Then I smiled.

"And I'm grateful for the man you became."

Oliver took one wobbly step.

Then another.

Sophie cheered.

Elias laughed.

May you like

And for the first time in a very long time, every piece of our family was exactly where it belonged.

The End
