Chapter 1: The Woman Who Knew the Truth

Chapter 1: The Woman Who Knew the Truth

Valeria slowly turned toward the voice behind her.

Standing in the hallway was an elderly housekeeper wearing a neatly pressed gray uniform.

Her eyes immediately filled with tears.

"I knew it..." she whispered. "You are alive."

Valeria struggled to find her voice.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Evelyn. I've worked for this family for twelve years."

She glanced nervously toward the ballroom before lowering her voice.

"Please... don't let them see us talking."

Evelyn guided Valeria into a quiet library and quietly closed the door.

"They told everyone you passed away from complications after caring for your sick father."

Valeria stared at her.

"What?"

"Mr. Julian said losing you destroyed him. He claimed he spent months grieving before finding happiness again with Miss Celeste."

The room seemed to tilt.

"So everyone believes he's a widower?"

Evelyn nodded.

"They all admire him."

Valeria felt sick.

"How long has Celeste been here?"

The answer came like another knife.

"Almost four years."

Valeria froze.

Four years.

She had been married for six.

Evelyn continued carefully.

"They met while you were traveling with your father during his cancer treatments."

Suddenly dozens of memories resurfaced.

Business trips Julian insisted she skip.

Late-night meetings.

Weekend conferences.

Phone calls he always took outside.

Every excuse suddenly fit together.

"He wasn't building our future," Valeria whispered.

"He was building another life."

Before Evelyn could answer, footsteps echoed in the hallway.

She quickly handed Valeria a small silver flash drive.

"I've been collecting everything."

Valeria looked down.

"What is this?"

"Photos... financial records... security footage."

Evelyn's voice shook.

"I couldn't stay silent anymore."

She squeezed Valeria's hand.

"Your father knew."

Before Valeria could ask another question, Evelyn disappeared through a servant's entrance.

Hidden inside the library, Valeria slipped the flash drive into her laptop.

The first video loaded.

Security footage.

Timestamp...

Three weeks before her father died.

Her father sat inside his office.

Julian stood across from him.

Neither of them looked calm.

The audio began.

"If you touch my daughter again," her father said coldly, "I'll make sure you never see a dollar from this family."

Julian smiled.

"You've already signed enough documents."

Her father slammed both hands on the desk.

"I changed my will this morning."

Julian's face turned white.

"You made a mistake."

"No," her father replied.

"My mistake was trusting you."

The screen suddenly went black.

Valeria covered her mouth.

Her father had known.

He had tried to protect her until his very last weeks.
