Chapter 2: The Man Who Owned Nothing

Chapter 2: The Man Who Owned Nothing
Marcus slammed both hands onto the conference table.
"This is fraud!"
"No," my father answered.
"This is paperwork."
The attorney adjusted his glasses.
"For eleven years, Mr. Marcus Hale served as Chief Executive under contractual authority granted by the Sinclair Family Trust."
Marcus stared.
"I was CEO."
"Correct."
"I signed every acquisition."
"With delegated authority."
"I negotiated every expansion."
"Using Sinclair capital."
"I built this company!"
My father finally smiled.
"You managed it."
"I built it."
Marcus's breathing became uneven.
Vanessa burst into the conference room moments later.
"Marcus, what is taking so—"
She froze.
No one invited her inside.
Security quietly closed the door behind her.
The head of Human Resources handed her a sealed envelope.
"What is this?"
"Termination."
"What?"
"You are no longer employed by Sinclair Grand Hospitality."
She laughed nervously.
"You can't fire me."
The HR director replied calmly.
"You were never legally hired."
Marcus turned toward me.
"You planned this."
I shook my head.
"No."
"I protected what belonged to my family."
"You betrayed me."
"I gave you eleven years."
"You repaid me with humiliation."
The room remained silent.
Then the Chief Financial Officer cleared his throat.
"There is one final agenda item."
He pressed a button.
The giant screen illuminated.
Security footage.
The lobby.
Earlier that evening.
Marcus ordering security to remove me.
Vanessa wearing my robe.
Employees looking helpless.
Guests recording everything.
No one spoke.
Marcus watched himself destroy everything.
The board watched with him.
When the video ended...
Only silence remained.
Finally, my father spoke.
"The vote."
Every board member raised a hand.
Unanimous.
Marcus Hale was removed as Chief Executive Officer.
Effective immediately.
His executive access disappeared before he could stand.
His company phone shut off.
His digital credentials vanished.
His office keys were electronically disabled.
