The silence inside the mansion lasted only a heartbeat.
Then Santiago laughed.
A short, arrogant laugh.
"You must be lost," he said, straightening his expensive jacket. "This is private property."
Ricardo Salazar didn't answer immediately.
He simply looked at his daughter.
Valeria's pale face.
The fading bruise beneath her sleeve.
The way she instinctively wrapped both arms around her unborn child.
That was enough.
A father never needed an explanation.
His eyes slowly returned to Santiago.
"You hit her."
It wasn't a question.
Santiago forced another smile.
"I think you've misunderstood—"
Ricardo raised one hand.
Behind him, six men in dark suits entered the mansion.
Not bodyguards.
Lawyers.
Federal investigators.
Two officers from the Financial Intelligence Unit.
And one family court judge carrying an emergency protective order.
Beatriz nearly dropped her wine glass.
"What is the meaning of this?"
The judge unfolded several documents.
"Mrs. Valeria Salazar has filed evidence of domestic violence, coercion, unlawful confinement, and conspiracy to commit custodial fraud."
Santiago's face froze.
Valeria quietly looked at him.
"I never stopped being a teacher," she said.
"I simply learned to be patient."
The antique clock on the fireplace suddenly chimed.
Ricardo nodded toward one of his attorneys.
"Play it."
A speaker was placed on the marble table.
Then the recording echoed throughout the mansion.
"If you don't sign tomorrow..."
"...your baby is going to grow up without a mother."
Every word.
Every threat.
Every insult.
Crystal clear.
Even Beatriz's voice.
"Don't leave bruises the photographers can see."
The judge lowered the documents.
"I believe we've heard enough."
Santiago lunged forward.
"This is illegal!"
"No," Ricardo answered calmly.
"What was illegal... was believing money erased consequences."
The officers stepped forward.
Santiago was not arrested.
Not yet.
But his passport was confiscated.
His assets were temporarily frozen.
Every electronic device inside the mansion was seized.
As investigators searched the estate, Valeria felt something she hadn't experienced in years.
Safety.
She burst into tears.
Ricardo wrapped his daughter in his arms.
"You don't have to be brave anymore."
