Chapter 5: What Was Left Behind

Chapter 5: What Was Left Behind

Hours later, the ballroom was empty.

The wedding decorations still hung—beautiful, meaningless now.

Julia knelt in front of Mia and gently wiped her face clean.

“It’s over,” she whispered.

Mia looked up. “Are we in trouble?”

Julia shook her head.

“No, sweetheart. We’re safe now.”

Behind them, David stood alone.

No authority. No mother. No shield.

Just the weight of what he had destroyed in a single moment.

He took a step forward.

“Can I—can I fix this?”

Julia finally looked at him one last time.

“You didn’t protect her when it mattered,” she said. “That was the only chance you had.”

She took Mia’s hand.

And walked away without looking back.

Outside, the night air was quiet.

For the first time that day, Mia stopped shaking.

And for Julia, the ending wasn’t about revenge.

It was about finally choosing peace over a family that never deserved them.

The End.
