Chapter 2: Blood Doesn't Lie
The operating room doors remained closed for nearly two hours.
Marcus paced the hallway without sitting once.
His tuxedo jacket lay forgotten on the floor.
Every few minutes he stared at the red surgery light above the door.
It never turned off.
Finally...
Dr. Bennett stepped outside.
His surgical gloves were gone.
His face showed exhaustion.
Marcus rushed forward.
"My wife?"
"We stabilized both mother and baby."
Marcus nearly collapsed with relief.
"But..."
The doctor's tone hardened.
"The kick caused partial placental separation."
Marcus's face drained.
"If treatment had been delayed another fifteen minutes..."
He didn't finish the sentence.
He didn't need to.
Marcus closed his eyes.
Rage slowly replaced fear.
Dr. Bennett handed him a sealed envelope.
"These are the medical findings."
"Every injury is documented."
"There is absolutely no question this was intentional."
Marcus accepted it silently.
Then his phone rang.
His father.
Richard Thorne.
"I've seen the security footage."
Marcus looked up.
"What?"
"It reached the family board."
Marcus frowned.
"How?"
Richard answered calmly.
"Someone uploaded it."
"It already has eight million views."
Marcus turned toward the hospital window.
Outside...
News vans were already arriving.
