Michael immediately took control.
"Prepare pediatric ventilation."
"Start IV fluids."
"Run blood cultures now."
Every order came sharp and precise.
The team responded instantly.
Minutes felt like hours.
Michael never left Lily's side.
He held her tiny hand while machines fought to keep her alive.
For the first time in his life, medicine wasn't just a profession.
It was personal.
Hours later, the lead pediatric specialist approached him.
"The infection was severe, but we caught it in time."
Michael looked up.
"Will she survive?"
The doctor smiled.
"Yes."
The relief nearly brought him to his knees.
Outside the room, his father sat alone in the hallway.
Michael slowly approached.
Neither spoke for several seconds.
Then Michael sat beside him.
"You should have told me."
The old man nodded.
"I know."
"I lost six years with my daughter."
Tears filled the old man's eyes.

Michael looked toward Lily's room.

His father lowered his head.
