Then my father raised his voice loud enough for every guest to hear.

“She couldn't even find someone willing to be her date.”

A few minutes later, he shoved me backward into the fountain.

My dress was drenched.

My makeup streamed down my face.

The applause and laughter echoed around me until I slowly looked up at him and whispered,

“Remember this moment.”
