Chapter 1: The Final Betrayal

Chapter 1: The Final Betrayal

The courtroom fell into complete silence as the judge examined the newest piece of evidence.

Matthew Reed's confident smile slowly disappeared.

Aiden Cole stood calmly beside Evelyn, placing one final file onto the evidence table.

"Your Honor," he said, "this is the original marriage certificate, recovered from the county archives after being deliberately hidden for six years."

The clerk compared the document with the forged divorce papers.

"They don't match."

The judge frowned.

"The signatures on the divorce papers are forged."

A wave of whispers spread across the courtroom.

Serena Hayes grabbed Matthew's arm.

"You told me everything was legal!"

Matthew jerked away.

"I did what I had to do!"

"You lied to me too?"

"No—I lied to everyone."

For the first time since this nightmare had begun, Matthew looked directly at Evelyn.

His voice trembled.

"I never meant for this to happen."

Evelyn stared at him without emotion.

"You planned every step."

"You stole my name."

"You stole my marriage."

"You stole years of my life."

"There was never an accident."

Matthew lowered his head.

"I know."

The judge's gavel echoed.

"This court finds the divorce documents fraudulent."

"The legal marriage between Matthew Reed and Evelyn Reed remained valid until today's proceedings."

"The subsequent marriage to Serena Hayes is therefore declared legally void."

Serena collapsed into her chair.

Everything she had built vanished in a single sentence.

But Evelyn felt no victory.

Only emptiness.

Nothing the judge could say would return the years she had already lost.

As reporters flooded outside the courthouse, flashing cameras followed every step.

One reporter shouted,

"Mrs. Reed! Do you have anything to say?"

Evelyn stopped.

Then she quietly answered,

"My name isn't Mrs. Reed anymore."

May you like

"It never truly belonged to him."

She walked away without looking back.
