Chapter 3: The Necklace

Chapter 3: The Necklace
Meanwhile, police officers arrived at the mansion.
Margaret welcomed them confidently.
"I'm glad you're here."
"My daughter-in-law stole my emerald necklace."
The lead detective nodded.
"We're actually here regarding evidence."
"What evidence?"
Minutes later, the home's security technician connected the surveillance recordings.
Every camera angle appeared on the television.
The footage clearly showed Brenda entering Margaret's bedroom.
She opened the jewelry box.
Removed the necklace.
Placed it inside her designer handbag.
Then, twenty minutes later...
She secretly slipped it into Evelyn's closet.
Margaret's face lost all color.
Brenda began shaking.
"I...I can explain..."
"You won't need to."
The detective held up another document.
"The pawn broker already confirmed you attempted to sell the necklace yesterday afternoon."
Andrew stared at Brenda in disbelief.
"You told me Evelyn attacked you."
"You said she threatened my mother."
Brenda burst into tears.
"I was afraid you'd never divorce her."
Andrew stepped backward as if the woman before him were a stranger.
