Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors

We checked into a nearby hotel before sunrise.

Anna fell asleep almost instantly, exhausted beyond words.

While she rested, I searched through the security system connected to our home's cameras.

There was only one camera that still worked.

The laundry room.

What I found made my stomach turn.

Every afternoon after I left for work...

My mother would order Anna to clean the entire house.

She wasn't allowed to sit.

She wasn't allowed to nap.

Sometimes she wasn't even allowed to eat until dinner.

Whenever Anna slowed down, my mother mocked her.

"If you're too weak to carry a baby, maybe you don't deserve one."

The recordings continued.

One afternoon my mother intentionally dropped a basket of wet clothes across the floor.

Then she ordered Anna to pick everything up while kneeling.

Anna struggled because of her swollen belly.

My mother simply stood there... watching.

I could barely breathe.

But the worst video came three days earlier.

Anna quietly called her own mother.

She cried for only thirty seconds before hanging up.

She didn't want anyone worrying.

She had chosen to suffer alone.

I closed the laptop.

My hands were shaking.

This wasn't family.

This was abuse.
