Chapter 1: The Stitch That Unraveled the Lie

The applause refused to stop.

Every guest inside the ballroom had just witnessed what should have been impossible.

In less than fifteen minutes, Maya had transformed a shredded, irreplaceable couture gown into something even more breathtaking than the original. The torn silk now flowed with hand-crafted embroidery fashioned from hidden fabric tucked inside the dress's lining—details only the original designer could have imagined.

The celebrity guest slowly turned before the cameras.

Flash after flash illuminated the ballroom.

"What happened to the dress?" one reporter asked.

Before Regina could invent another excuse, the actress smiled warmly.

"This woman saved it."

She gently took Maya's hand and pulled her beside her.

"If she hadn't been here tonight, I would have walked away."

The cameras instantly shifted away from Regina.

For the first time in years...

The executive was invisible.

Regina forced a smile.

"It was all part of our emergency preparation."

Several employees exchanged uneasy glances.

They knew that wasn't true.

Then a soft voice interrupted.

"I'm sorry," Maya said politely.

"I don't like taking credit for things that belong to someone else."

The ballroom became silent.

She reached into her cleaning cart and carefully unfolded the torn sketchbook Regina had ripped apart only minutes earlier.

Although several pages had been destroyed, enough remained.

Each page contained elegant fashion sketches.

Every single one matched signature details from the luxury collection displayed throughout the gala.

Murmurs spread across the room.

One investor leaned closer.

"Those designs..."

"They're identical."

The famous actress looked at Regina.

"You told everyone your creative department designed this collection."

Regina swallowed.

Maya quietly answered.

"I drew those sketches three years ago."

Gasps echoed across the ballroom.

Regina laughed nervously.

"She's confused."

But Maya simply removed a faded employment contract from her folder.

It wasn't a janitorial agreement.

It listed her original position.

Junior Couture Pattern Specialist.

The room froze.

"I wasn't hired to clean," Maya said.

"I was hired to create."
