Chapter 1: The Wedding That Stopped

Chapter 1: The Wedding That Stopped

No one dared to clap.

No one even dared to breathe.

The wedding orchestra slowly lowered their instruments as every eye remained fixed on Clara.

The torn wedding dress trailed behind her like the remains of a battle.

Patricia's confident smile had disappeared.

"This... this is fake," she stammered.

The venue manager calmly adjusted his glasses.

"I'm afraid it isn't, Mrs. Whitlock."

He turned another page inside the folder.

"The estate was purchased three years ago through Mason Holdings. Miss Clara Mason is the sole owner."

A giant screen above the ballroom suddenly lit up.

The original architectural drawings appeared.

Every blueprint carried one signature.

Clara Mason.

Gasps echoed across the hall.

Guests began whispering.

"She designed this place?"

"She owns Mason Holdings?"

"I thought she was just an interior designer."

Andrew felt his knees weaken.

"You... never told me."

Clara looked at him with quiet disappointment.

"You never asked."

The words struck harder than any accusation.

She remembered every dinner where Andrew talked endlessly about his family's success.

Every vacation planned by Patricia.

Every conversation where no one ever wondered about Clara's career beyond asking whether she would quit working after marriage.

Not once...

Had anyone cared who she truly was.

Patricia forced herself to laugh.

"So what? Owning a building doesn't make you part of this family."

Clara slowly removed the engagement ring.

The diamond sparkled beneath the crystal chandeliers.

Then she gently placed it into Andrew's trembling hand.

"I wasn't trying to become part of your family."

She paused.

"I was hoping you wanted to become part of mine."

Andrew couldn't answer.

May you like

Because, deep inside...

He realized he had already lost the only woman who had ever loved him without conditions.
