“Sir… Can You Come Get Me?”

She Called the Billionaire Mafia While Her Own Family Hunted Her… They Laughed, “Don’t Bother Calling Him, Sweetheart.” By Dawn, He Had Made Their Mansion Tell the Truth.

“Mr. Kane… can you come get me?”

Harper Langford barely recognized the sound of her own voice.

It wasn't a cry.

It wasn't even a whisper.

It was the last fragile thread holding a broken woman together.

Blood slipped from the cut along her hairline, tracing a warm line down her temple before dripping into the corner of her eye. The crystal lamp beside her blurred into a hazy golden glow. Her right hand lay curled uselessly against her chest, fingers grotesquely swollen after her father had slammed them inside the drawer of his antique mahogany desk when she refused to sign the documents that would erase her existence.

On the other end of the old landline...

Silence.

Harper knew that silence.

Everyone on the East Coast did.

It was the silence that came whenever Dominic Kane stopped deciding whether someone deserved mercy—or burial.

Then his voice came.

Low.

Controlled.

Cold enough to freeze the blood in her veins.

"Where are you?"

"Ravenshore..." she breathed. "My father's estate... Greenwich... the library. They destroyed my phone. I found the old line behind the bookcase."

Another violent crash shook the heavy oak door.

Harper flinched so hard the receiver struck her bruised cheek.

"I don't know how much longer I have."

Outside the library, laughter echoed.

Her half-sister.

Paige.

The sound wasn't joyful.

It was nervous.

Cruel.

The laugh of someone watching a disaster unfold and discovering she enjoyed it far more than she should.

"Harper."

Dominic's voice became razor sharp.

"Lock the door."

"I already did."

"Barricade it."

"My hand..."

"Then use your shoulder."

Another impact.

The hinges groaned.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

"Use your legs."

A third strike rattled every bookshelf in the room.

"And don't hang up."

Downstairs...

A string quartet floated through Ravenshore's grand ballroom.

Elegant music.

Crystal chandeliers.

Champagne.

Three hundred distinguished guests.

Senators.

Judges.

Hospital trustees.

Television reporters.

Old-money philanthropists applauding Grayson Langford's annual charity gala.

They admired the generous billionaire.

None of them knew that one floor above them...

His own daughter was bleeding across a Persian rug while he hunted her like prey.

"Harper!"

Grayson Langford's voice thundered through the door.

"Open this door."

Silence.

"I won't ask again."

Harper pressed herself against the massive desk, fighting to steady her breathing.

"He's going to kill me."

"No."

Dominic answered instantly.

"He won't."

"You don't understand." Her voice cracked. "He owns judges. He owns the police commissioner. Doctors sign whatever he tells them to. They'll say I'm unstable. They'll say I attacked them."

"They can say whatever story they want."

Dominic's tone never changed.

"But tonight..."

A pause.

"...the house is going to tell the truth."

Harper didn't understand.

Pain made thinking impossible.

Another deafening blow.

Wood splintered beside the brass lock.

Through the jagged crack...

She saw her father's eye.

Cold.

Pale blue.

Smiling.

The smile of a man who had never once doubted that the world belonged to him.

"Harper," Grayson said softly.

"Who did you call?"

Her broken fingers trembled around the receiver.

On the floor beside the hidden bookshelf...

Dominic heard every word.

"Move away from the door."

Harper obeyed.

Grayson's hand shoved through the shattered opening, searching for the lock.

Click.

The deadbolt released.

The library door exploded inward with such force it slammed into the wall, knocking a century-old oil portrait sideways.

Grayson Langford entered first.

Black tuxedo.

Silver cufflinks.

Bourbon on his breath.

His face red with fury disguised as authority.

Behind him stood Celeste Langford in flawless white silk, diamonds glittering around her throat like frozen stars.

Beside her...

Paige.

Perfect Paige.

Still holding the broken stem of the champagne flute she had dragged across Harper's cheek only minutes earlier.

A thin ribbon of blood still clung to the jagged glass.

"Give me the phone."

Harper didn't move.

For twenty-six years...

She had survived by obeying before anyone asked twice.

Tonight...

For the first time in her life...

She chose not to.

Grayson's expression hardened.

Three long strides.

He reached her.

His hand wrapped around her already shattered fingers.

Then...

He squeezed.

The pain exploded through Harper's body like white fire.

The receiver slipped from her grasp.

It struck the Persian rug with a dull thud.

Dominic Kane's voice echoed from the cracked handset.

"Five minutes, Harper."

Grayson looked down.

The name meant something.

For the first time all evening...

Uncertainty crossed his face.

Only for a heartbeat.

Then he smiled.

Ground the receiver beneath his polished Italian shoe.

Plastic shattered.

The line went dead.

"No one," Grayson said quietly, "is coming to save you."

Harper stared at him through blood-blurred vision.

She said nothing.

Outside...

The orchestra continued playing.

Guests laughed over champagne.

Crystal glasses clinked beneath glittering chandeliers.

Everything appeared perfect.

Until exactly five minutes later...

The twelve-foot front doors of Ravenshore burst inward with a thunderous crash.

The impact shook the marble foyer so violently that both doors slammed against the stone walls hard enough to crack the plaster.

And in that single deafening moment...

Every lie the Langford family had spent decades building began to collapse.
