Chapter 2

Chapter 2: The Fall of an Empire
Damian rushed forward.
"Elena, please."
For the first time that night, fear appeared in his eyes.
Real fear.
Not for their marriage.
Not for losing her.
For losing everything.
"You don't have to do this."
Elena stared at him.
The words sounded strangely familiar.
Because years earlier, she had said those same words to him.
When he had walked away.
When he had chosen ambition over loyalty.
When he had decided she was no longer useful.
Now fate had brought them full circle.
The ballroom doors opened.
More executives entered.
More lawyers.
More auditors.
One by one they delivered notices.
Partnerships terminated.
Investments withdrawn.
Pending acquisitions canceled.
Lines of credit frozen.
The room erupted into chaos.
Damian grabbed the papers desperately.
"No!"
His voice cracked.
"This can't happen!"
But it already was.
Within minutes, billions of dollars in projected value disappeared.
The empire he believed he owned had been standing on foundations Elena had built.
And she was taking them back.
Veronica looked around wildly.
The wealthy friends who had once surrounded her were quietly stepping away.
Nobody wanted to be associated with a sinking ship.
Especially one sinking this fast.
She reached for Damian's arm.
He shoved her hand away.
For the first time, she realized something terrifying.
May you like
The powerful man she had chased no longer existed.
And neither did the future she had imagined.
