Chapter 2: The Weight of Truth

Chapter 2: The Weight of Truth
Three months later...
Voss Global was stronger than ever.
Employees noticed the changes immediately.
Executive bonuses were tied to employee well-being.
Factory workers received healthcare.
Scholarships were created for the children of staff.
Anonymous complaints were investigated directly by Elena herself.
People no longer feared walking into the executive floor.
They felt heard.
One afternoon, Martin entered Elena's office.
"There's someone asking to see you."
She already knew.
"Damian."
Martin nodded.
"He insists it's important."
After a long silence...
"Let him in."
Damian entered wearing a simple gray suit.
Gone were the expensive watches.
Gone was the arrogance.
He looked older.
Smaller.
He placed an envelope on her desk.
"My resignation from every remaining position."
"You don't have any positions left," Elena replied gently.
"I know."
He looked down.
"I came to apologize."
"I spent years convincing myself I deserved everything."
"I forgot who gave me the opportunity in the first place."
Elena studied him for a long moment.
"I don't need revenge anymore."
"I needed accountability."
Damian nodded.
"I understand."
He turned to leave.
Before reaching the door, Elena spoke again.
"I hope you build something one day."
He looked back, surprised.
"But this time..."
"Build it honestly."
For the first time in years...
Damian smiled.
Not because he had won.
Because someone had finally told him the truth.
Outside the building, Veronica waited impatiently.
"Did she give us anything?"
Damian looked at her quietly.
"No."
"So what now?"
He took a deep breath.
"You can keep looking for shortcuts."
"I'm done."
He walked away without turning around.
Veronica watched him disappear into the crowd.

For the first time...
She stood completely alone.
