The police found Toby sitting quietly in a small hospital room.
His winter hat was gone.

Detective Sarah knelt beside him.
"You’re safe now, Toby," she said gently.
The boy didn't answer.
He simply stared at the floor.
Hours passed before he finally spoke.
"Is he coming back?"
The question broke every adult in the room.
