CHAPTER 2: THE TRUTH BEHIND THE BETRAYAL

CHAPTER 2: THE TRUTH BEHIND THE BETRAYAL

Within an hour, Isabella sat tied to a chair inside the villa library.

The false driver was in another room.

Marco had already confessed.

So had two corrupted guards.

The entire conspiracy began to unfold.

But the greatest shock came from Alessio.

"It wasn't her idea," he said.

Vittorio frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Alessio slid a folder across the table.

Inside were photographs.

Bank records.

Messages.

Surveillance reports.

And one name.

Salvatore Romano.

The head of a rival organization in Sicily.

For years, Salvatore had been manipulating Isabella.

Threatening her family.

Using debts and blackmail to force her cooperation.

At first she had only provided information.

Then routes.

Then schedules.

Eventually there was no way back.

Tears streamed down Isabella's face.

"I never wanted it to go this far."

Vittorio stared at her.

His expression revealed nothing.

"Yet you still chose."

She lowered her head.

Because there was no answer to that.

Choice was choice.

Fear could explain betrayal.

It could never erase it.

Meanwhile, another team of Morelli soldiers followed the GPS signal from the message sent to Vittorio's phone.

An abandoned farmhouse outside Naples.

That was where they found Renzo.

Alive.

Beaten.

But alive.

When Sophia saw her father brought back through the villa gates that evening, she ran so fast she nearly fell.

Renzo dropped to his knees.

Father and daughter held each other while everyone watched.

Even hardened gangsters turned away.

Some scenes were too human to witness comfortably.

Vittorio stood nearby.

For the first time in many years, he felt ashamed.

He controlled half of Naples.

Yet a seven-year-old girl had saved him.

Not his soldiers.

Not his advisors.

May you like

Not his money.

A child.
