Chapter 2: The Woman They Never Saw

Chapter 2: The Woman They Never Saw

The news exploded before sunrise.

CEO Removed Overnight.

Hidden Heiress Revealed as Corporate Owner.

Sterling Family Loses Control.

Every business channel carried the same story.

Reporters crowded outside the headquarters.

Investors celebrated.

The company's stock climbed nearly twelve percent before lunch.

Inside the executive boardroom, I took the chair that had always legally belonged to me.

The directors stood as I entered.

Not because they had to.

Because they wanted to.

"I owe everyone an explanation," I began.

"For four years I stayed in the background because I believed leadership wasn't about recognition."

I paused.

"I was wrong."

"It is also about accountability."

One by one, executives admitted that Daniel had ignored warnings, rejected expert advice, and taken credit for work completed by others.

The evidence filled hundreds of pages.

By afternoon, an internal investigation had begun.

Meanwhile...

Daniel sat alone in a rented apartment.

The mansion.

The luxury cars.

The private memberships.

Even the watch on his wrist had belonged to the company.

Everything had been revoked.

His phone rang.

Hope flashed across his face.

"Elena..."

Instead, it was Chloe.

"I've packed my things."

"What?"

"I'm leaving."

"You said you loved me."

"I loved the CEO."

She laughed softly.

"I never dated unemployed men."

The call ended.

Minutes later, Patricia arrived.

Not to comfort her son.

To blame him.

"You fool!"

"You had everything!"

"You married the richest woman in the country... and treated her like she needed you."

Daniel buried his face in his hands.

For the first time...

He finally understood what he had lost.

Not the company.

May you like

Not the fortune.

The only person who had ever loved him before knowing his title.
