Chapter 1: The Truth Buried for Twenty Years

Chapter 1: The Truth Buried for Twenty Years
The maid collapsed onto the cold marble floor.
The ballroom exploded into whispers.
Doctors rushed forward, but the groom knelt beside her first, gently lifting her head into his arms.
"Please... stay with me."
His voice trembled.
For years, Ethan had believed his little sister had died in a terrible house fire.
His father had buried an empty coffin.
His mother had never smiled again.
Now...
She was here.
Alive.
The bride, Vanessa, slowly backed away.
Her breathing became shallow.
"No... this isn't happening."
Ethan stood, his eyes fixed on her.
"You knew."
She shook her head violently.
"I didn't!"
"Then why did you tell everyone my sister died?"
Vanessa opened her mouth, but no words came.
Before she could answer, the ballroom doors burst open.
Police officers flooded inside.
"We've identified the suspect who tampered with the champagne."
Several guests immediately pointed toward the catering manager.
The man tried to run.
He barely made three steps before officers tackled him onto the marble floor.
As they handcuffed him, he shouted toward Vanessa.
"You promised you'd protect me!"
The ballroom went silent again.
Every face slowly turned toward the bride.
Vanessa's tears began to fall.
"I never wanted him dead..."
Ethan stared at her in disbelief.
"What did you just say?"
"I only wanted the wedding canceled!"
Gasps echoed through the crowd.
"The poison wasn't supposed to kill you."
The catering manager laughed bitterly.
"That wasn't our agreement."
Vanessa's entire body shook.
"I didn't know..."
But no one believed her anymore.
As officers led both suspects away, Ethan looked down at the unconscious maid.
"My sister saved my life..."
"...while the woman I was about to marry nearly destroyed it."
For the first time that day...
The wedding guests applauded.

Not for a marriage.
But for the courage of the maid no one had noticed until she became everyone's hero.
