CHAPTER 2: THE CHILD WHO WAS NEVER LOST

CHAPTER 2: THE CHILD WHO WAS NEVER LOST
I stared at Emily.
“What did you just say?”
Victoria immediately stepped between us.
“Daniel, she’s lying.”
But her voice wasn’t confident anymore.
It was desperate.
Emily shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at me.
“I kept quiet because I was scared.”
“Scared of what?”
She glanced at Victoria.
“Her.”
Victoria laughed nervously.
“This is ridiculous.”
But I noticed something.
Her hands were shaking.
Emily continued.
“Your son didn’t die.”
The world stopped.
I couldn’t breathe.
“What?”
“My son?”
I barely managed the words.
Emily nodded.
“He survived.”
I felt dizzy.
“No…”
Victoria whispered.
“Don’t listen to her.”
But Emily reached under the pillow.
With difficulty, she pulled out a small envelope.
“I found this hidden in Mrs. Cole’s office.”
Victoria’s face changed instantly.
“Give me that.”
She moved forward.
I blocked her.
“Don’t.”
For the first time…
Victoria stopped.
Inside the envelope was an old photograph.
A baby.
A hospital bracelet.
And a document.
My hands started trembling.
Because the name on the bracelet was mine.
My son.
Alive.
Hidden.
Stolen from me.
I looked at Victoria.
“Explain.”
She said nothing.
“EXPLAIN!”
The twins started crying.
Emily immediately tried to calm them.
Even tied up.
Even injured.
She still protected them.
Victoria looked at her.
Then at me.
And finally…
The mask fell.
“You wouldn’t understand.”
I stared at her.
“Try me.”
She sat down slowly.
“I lost control.”
“Lost control?”
“You had everything.”
Her eyes filled with anger.
“You had a perfect family. A perfect image. Everyone loved you.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“So you took my son?”
Victoria looked away.
“I thought I could fix everything.”
My fists clenched.
“What did you do?”
She whispered:
“I changed the records.”
Silence.
“You told me my son died.”
“Yes.”
The confession hit harder than any physical pain.
“Why?”
Victoria looked at me.
“Because I was afraid.”
“Of what?”
She looked at the twins.
“Of losing you.”
I stepped back.
The woman standing in front of me wasn’t my wife.
She was a stranger.
A dangerous stranger.
Then Emily spoke softly.
“There’s more.”
I turned.
“What more?”
Emily looked at Victoria.
“She didn’t just hide your son.”
“She tried to erase everyone who knew.”
Victoria’s eyes widened.
Because she knew what came next.
“My son…”
Emily whispered.
“Was adopted by my sister.”
I froze.
“Your sister?”
Emily nodded.
“And that boy…”
She looked at the photograph.
“Is alive.”
My heart stopped.
“Where?”
May you like
Emily looked at me.
“He’s been living ten minutes away from this house.”
