Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Bracelet

Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Bracelet

The room fell into a silence so complete that even the distant music from the reception seemed to disappear.

Marianne's fingers loosened, and the torn piece of fabric slipped to the floor.

"You... gave it to her?" she repeated, each word sharper than the last.

Richard closed his eyes for a moment.

"Yes."

Lily felt Ethan's hand tighten around hers.

Neither of them had expected family tension on their wedding day.

But nothing could have prepared them for this.

Marianne laughed bitterly.

"I spent fifteen years believing someone stole that bracelet."

Richard didn't answer.

Because there was no lie left to tell.

Evelyn slowly removed the bracelet from her wrist.

"I never asked for it."

Marianne looked at her with disbelief.

"You expect me to believe that?"

"No," Evelyn replied quietly. "I expect you to hear the whole story."

Everyone remained frozen.

Even the wedding planner, halfway through opening the bridal suite door, quietly closed it again.

Richard finally stepped forward.

"It started twenty years ago."

Marianne's face hardened.

"I don't care when it started."

"But you should," Evelyn interrupted.

Her voice trembled.

"Because it ended before Lily was even born."

Richard nodded.

"We worked together after college."

"I fell in love with Evelyn."

Ethan blinked.

"You never told me that."

Richard smiled sadly.

"I was too ashamed."

He continued.

"My parents refused to accept her because she came from a poor family."

"They arranged my marriage to Marianne."

Marianne's breathing became uneven.

"So our marriage..."

Richard lowered his head.

"It wasn't built on love."

"It was built on obligation."

No one spoke.

Richard looked at Evelyn.

"We ended everything before my wedding."

"I promised never to contact her again."

Evelyn quietly added,

"And he kept that promise."

Marianne frowned.

"Then why does she have my bracelet?"

Richard swallowed.

May you like

"Because five years ago..."

"...we met again by accident."
