Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors

The next morning Daniel pretended to leave for the airport.

Instead, he parked around the corner and quietly returned home through the back entrance.

The cheerful voice Carol always used around him vanished instantly.

"You'll eat after I finish my breakfast," she snapped at Ethan.

The little boy nodded silently.

Hours passed.

Carol enjoyed television while Ethan sat hungry at the kitchen table.

When he accidentally spilled a little milk, she exploded.

"I knew your mother raised a useless child!"

Ethan immediately apologized.

"I'm sorry... I'll clean it."

"You'd better."

Daniel stood frozen outside the doorway, unable to breathe.

This wasn't one bad moment.

It was routine.

Later, he watched security camera recordings from inside the house—footage he had installed years earlier but never bothered to review.

Every single recording told the same story.

Carol ignored Ethan.

Insulted him.

Locked him outside during rainstorms.

Once, she even tore apart another handmade gift before throwing it into the fireplace.

Daniel felt physically sick.

That evening, he gently asked Ethan,

"Has Carol always treated you this way?"

The little boy hesitated.

Then quietly answered,

"She told me not to tell you... because you finally looked happy again after Mom died."

Daniel's heart shattered.

His own son had suffered in silence just to protect him.

Every promise he'd made to his late wife had been broken—not by Ethan...

But by the woman he had trusted most.

Daniel knew there was only one thing left to do.

Carol's lies were about to end.
