Chapter 2: The Secret Behind Her Mission
After the ceremony, guests gathered outside for photographs.
The bride finally knelt beside the little girl.
“Can you tell me why you wanted to stay up there so badly?”
The toddler looked surprised.
“Because somebody had to protect you.”
The bride blinked.
“Protect me from what?”
The little girl lowered her voice dramatically.
“Weddings are scary.”
The adults exchanged amused glances.
“Why are weddings scary?”
The toddler pointed toward the sky.
“Because everybody cries.”
The bride laughed.
“That’s because they're happy.”
The little girl considered this carefully.
Then she pointed at several relatives who were wiping tears from their eyes.
“See? Crying.”
The bride wrapped her in a hug.
“So you stayed with us to make sure everything was okay?”
The little girl nodded proudly.
“Yes. And it worked.”
At that moment, the photographer called everyone together for a group picture.
As the wedding party lined up, the little girl marched directly to the center.
Not beside Grandma.
Not beside her parents.
Right between the bride and groom.
Nobody had the heart to move her.
