The line remained connected.
No one spoke.
Then my father exhaled slowly.
"I've been waiting for this call."
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
Not the voice of an angry billionaire.
The voice of a man whose decision had already been made months ago.
"Are you alive?"
"Yes."
"Can you still stand?"
"Barely."
"Good."
Another pause.
Then he said the sentence Adrian would remember for the rest of his life.
"Everything begins now."
The call ended.
Adrian burst into laughter.
"That's it?"
"You called your old accountant father?"
He shook his head with amusement.
"I expected something more dramatic."
Vanessa giggled from the sofa.
"I almost feel disappointed."
Neither of them noticed the vibration coming from Adrian's phone.
One notification.
Then another.
Then twenty more.
His smile slowly disappeared.
"What..."
He unlocked the screen.
Every company account under Vale Holdings had been frozen.
Every corporate credit line had been suspended.
Every overseas transaction had been flagged for federal review.
His bank manager was calling.
His attorney was calling.
His chief financial officer was calling.
The calls never stopped.
Adrian answered the first one.
"What do you mean all transfers are blocked?"
His CFO sounded terrified.
"Sir... someone bought controlling interest in every lender financing our projects."
"Who?"
Silence.
Then one name.
"Sterling Global Capital."
Adrian frowned.
"I've never heard of them."
I finally smiled.
"You've heard of my father."
"You just never knew his real last name."
His face turned white.
"My father isn't a retired accountant."
"His name is Jonathan Sterling."
"The founder of Sterling Global."
The phone slipped from Adrian's hand.
