Chapter 3: The Trial

Chapter 3: The Trial
News of the attempted murder spread across the country.
Every television network covered the shocking case.
During the trial, prosecutors presented surveillance footage showing Richard entering the attic hours before the party.
Engineers testified that the chandelier could not have fallen naturally.
The cut marks on the steel cables perfectly matched the wire cutters found in Richard's pocket.
Then came the maid's testimony.
She explained how she noticed tiny metal strands falling from the ceiling moments before the accident.
When she looked up, she saw the chandelier swaying unnaturally.
She had only seconds to react.
"I didn't push Mrs. Carter to hurt her."
"I pushed her because I knew she would die if I didn't."
Silence filled the courtroom.
Even the jurors wiped away tears.
Richard never looked at Emily once.
He simply stared at the table, knowing every lie had collapsed.
After only three hours of deliberation, the jury returned.
"Guilty on all counts."

Richard was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Justice had finally caught up with him.
