Chapter 1: The Fall That Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Fall That Changed Everything
The courthouse steps erupted into chaos.
Someone screamed for an ambulance.
Another witness pointed at the woman standing halfway up the staircase, frozen in disbelief.
Vanessa Langley—the woman who had shoved Khloe.
At the bottom of the marble stairs, Khloe lay motionless, one trembling hand resting over her swollen stomach. Blood slowly spread across the pale stone beneath her.
"Please... my baby..."
Those were the last words she managed before darkness claimed her.
Ten minutes later, three black SUVs screeched to a halt outside the courthouse.
Harrison Cole stepped out.
The state's most feared trial attorney had argued hundreds of impossible cases.
Nothing had ever shaken him.
Until now.
When he saw his little sister lying on the stretcher, covered in blood.
He walked beside the paramedics without saying a word.
"Who did this?"
A trembling witness pointed toward Richard Harrington and Vanessa.
Richard hurried forward.
"Harrison, it wasn't—"
Before he could finish, Harrison raised one hand.
"Don't."
The single word silenced everyone.
"I've spent twenty years defending innocent people."
His eyes never left Richard.
"But today..."
He slowly removed his wedding ring-sized family signet from his finger and slipped it into his pocket.
"I'm going to make sure neither of you ever hurts another person again."
Richard suddenly felt colder than the rain surrounding them.
For the first time since meeting Harrison, he understood something terrifying.
The lawyer wasn't angry.

He was completely calm.
And calm Harrison Cole was far more dangerous.
