Chapter 2: The Collapse of a Perfect Lie

Chapter 2: The Collapse of a Perfect Lie

By morning, the mansion was surrounded by silence—and investigators.

The stepmother’s belongings were still scattered across the marble floor like evidence of a life that no longer belonged to her. But now, officials were inside the study, reviewing documents that told a far darker story than anyone expected.

Bank accounts. Legal filings. Private correspondence.

Everything pointed to one conclusion: she hadn’t just tried to replace the mother—she had tried to erase her entirely.

The children refused to leave their real mother’s side, clinging to her hand as if afraid she might disappear again. And for the first time, the father noticed something he had ignored for years.

Peace.

It didn’t come from wealth.

It came from truth.

When the stepmother was escorted back into the hall for questioning, she looked around desperately—searching for sympathy, for doubt, for anything that might save her.

But all she found was distance.

Even the servants no longer met her eyes.

“You built your life on stolen ground,” the father said. “And now it’s collapsing under you.”

Her lips trembled.

For the first time, she had no reply.
