Chapter 1: The Fall Begins

Chapter 1: The Fall Begins
Marcus stood frozen in the middle of the hotel lobby as employees who had greeted him every morning suddenly refused to meet his eyes.
"Sir... I'm afraid your credentials have been revoked."
The words sounded impossible.
"This is my hotel."
The general manager swallowed.
"It isn't anymore."
Marcus reached for his phone.
No signal.
Not because the network had failed—but because every executive account under Castle Hospitality had been disabled simultaneously. His corporate email disappeared. His banking authorization expired. Every digital key he had relied on vanished in less than three minutes.
His mistress stepped out of the presidential suite wearing Isabella's silk robe.
"Marcus? What's happening?"
Before he could answer, the suite door locked behind her.
A red light flashed.
ACCESS DENIED.
She laughed nervously.
"Open it."
Nobody moved.
Two uniformed security officers approached.
"Mr. Marcus Hale?"
He forced a smile.
"Finally. Tell these people to stop this nonsense."
Instead, one officer extended his hand.
"We've been instructed to escort you from the property."
Marcus stared.
"You work for me."
The older officer answered quietly.
"Not anymore."
Outside, rain had begun to fall.
Across the street, Isabella remained inside a black sedan.
She watched without satisfaction.
Without anger.
Only certainty.
Her father had warned her years ago.
"Power isn't measured by who enters the room. It's measured by who still owns the room after everyone else leaves."

Marcus was finally learning that lesson.
The hard way.
