Chapter 2: An Unexpected Visit

Chapter 2: An Unexpected Visit
Three days later, a black sedan stopped outside Sterling Manor.
The guards exchanged surprised looks when they recognized the passenger.
Vivianne Carter.
She looked different.
No designer entourage.
No expensive sunglasses.
No arrogance.
Just exhaustion.
After several minutes, Aiyana agreed to meet her.
They sat across from each other in the estate's private library.
For a long moment, neither woman spoke.
Finally, Vivianne lowered her eyes.
"I came to apologize."
Aiyana remained silent.
Vivianne swallowed hard.
"I spent years believing status made me important."
Her voice trembled.
"And when people admired me, I thought it meant they respected me."
The room felt unusually quiet.
"But the moment everything went wrong, nobody stood beside me."
Aiyana listened carefully.
"They weren't respecting you," she said softly.
"They were benefiting from you."
Vivianne nodded.
Tears appeared in her eyes.
"I understand that now."
She slid a handwritten letter across the table.
"I don't expect forgiveness."
Aiyana looked at the letter but didn't open it.
"What do you expect?"
Vivianne hesitated.
"Nothing."
For the first time since the gala, she sounded honest.
"I just wanted to say I was wrong."
Then she stood and walked toward the door.
Before leaving, she stopped.
"I'm sorry."
This time, there was no audience.
No cameras.
No performance.
May you like
Only sincerity.
And somehow, that made the apology worth more than any public statement ever could.
