Chapter 3: No One Is Above the Law

Chapter 3: No One Is Above the Law

The ballroom lights dimmed.

A massive screen descended from the ceiling.

Footage began playing.

The guests watched in stunned silence.

There was no editing.

No dramatic music.

Only raw security footage.

My attacker grabbing my arm.

Dragging me across the ballroom.

Throwing me into the marble wall.

Several witnesses stepping away instead of helping.

Three executives laughing.

Two politicians pretending not to notice.

One famous attorney quietly walking in the opposite direction.

Every face.

Every reaction.

Every second.

Documented.

My attacker screamed,

"Turn it off!"

"No."

I looked directly at him.

"Tonight, everyone watches what you expected everyone else to ignore."

A second video appeared.

Earlier that evening.

The same man threatening a hotel employee.

Another clip.

Bribing an inspector.

Another.

Destroying evidence after a financial crime investigation.

His smile vanished forever.

One by one...

Federal agents entered through hidden security corridors.

Not through the locked ballroom doors.

There had always been another entrance.

Just not one available to the guests.

Handcuffs clicked.

One arrest became three.

Then seven.

May you like

Then twelve.

The charity gala had become the largest white-collar crime operation in city history.
