Chapter 2: The Family Gathering

Chapter 2: The Family Gathering
Three weeks later, Dorothy organized an emergency family meeting.
She expected support.
Instead, she walked into a trap of her own making.
Every relative was present.
The same dining room.
The same long table.
The same chandelier.
But this time, Michael stood beside me from the beginning.
Dorothy folded her arms.
"Are you two finally ready to apologize?"
Several relatives exchanged uncomfortable glances.
Michael placed the leather notebook on the table.
Dorothy's confidence vanished instantly.
Her eyes locked onto it.
The room noticed.
"What is that?" Raymond asked.
Michael opened the notebook.
"You tell us."
Dorothy's face turned white.
"No."
The word escaped before she could stop it.
And everyone heard.
One by one, Michael read the entries aloud.
The missing education fund.
The manipulated stories.
The hidden trust documents.
The lies.
Years of lies.
The room erupted.
"You told us Eleanor left everything to you!"
"You said you saved the estate!"
"You blamed Michael's father for the financial problems!"
Questions flew from every direction.
Dorothy tried to interrupt.
Nobody listened.
Then Raymond spoke.
His voice shook.
"The university fund..."
He looked directly at his mother.
"Was that true?"
Dorothy couldn't answer.
That silence became her confession.
Cindy slowly stepped away from her mother-in-law.
The relatives who had spent years praising Dorothy suddenly found themselves questioning everything.

For the first time in decades, Dorothy stood alone.
Exactly where she had tried to place me.
