The doors remained locked.

But now, it wasn’t to contain Maya.

It was to contain everyone else.

Colonel Vance stepped back and spoke into his wrist device once.

A single command.

“Activate Protocol Echo.”

Every security guard in the ballroom straightened instantly—as if rewired.

Victoria’s voice shook. “What did you just do?”

Vance didn’t answer.

Outside the glass walls, distant sirens began to rise.

Not police.

Not ambulances.

Black vehicles.

Unmarked.

Arriving fast.

Maya’s voice was barely audible. “What is happening?”

Vance turned to her fully now.

“Your life as you knew it is over.”

A pause.

“And so is theirs.”

He gestured faintly toward the ballroom full of elites.

“You were never an orphan.”

“You were classified.”

The first impact came when the doors finally opened.

Not outward.

But inward.
