An hour later, the family gathered inside the library.
Old records covered the table.
Missing-person reports.
Police files.
Hospital documents.
Every piece of evidence Eleanor had kept for two decades.
The young woman sat quietly beside her.
Her name was Emma.
The only name she had ever known.
Then the family attorney arrived carrying a sealed box from the estate archives.
Eleanor immediately recognized it.
It contained documents from the year Emma disappeared.
The attorney opened it carefully.
Inside was a report no one had seen before.

The room fell silent as he read aloud.
"I observed Ms. Vivienne Ashford removing the child from the garden party shortly before the disappearance."
The words hit like a thunderbolt.
Every head turned toward Vivienne.

"That's not true," she whispered.

Emma stared at her aunt in horror.
