Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden for Ten Years

A DNA test was arranged the very next day.

The waiting felt endless.

Emma was placed in a safe children's shelter while the results were processed.

For the first time in years, she slept in a clean bed.

For the first time in years, someone asked if she was hungry.

Three days later, the results arrived.

99.999% match.

Emma was her daughter.

The woman, Victoria Hale, broke down crying before she could finish reading the report.

But another shocking truth emerged.

Security records from the hospital were reopened.

Investigators discovered that a nurse had secretly worked with a child-trafficking broker ten years earlier.

Several newborns had disappeared during that period.

Most were never found.

One witness finally confessed.

The nurse had taken Victoria's baby and sold her to a couple living in another state.

Years later, those people died in an accident.

Emma had been left alone and eventually ended up on the streets.

All those years.

All that suffering.

Because someone wanted money.

When Victoria told Emma the truth, the little girl sat quietly for a long time.

Then she asked a question that broke every heart in the room.

"If you're really my mom... why didn't you come sooner?"

Victoria burst into tears.

She wrapped Emma in her arms.

"I never stopped looking for you."
