Chapter 1: The Name Behind the Dress

Chapter 1: The Name Behind the Dress
The woman on the floor stared at the girl as if she were seeing a ghost.
"No..." she whispered.
The employee remained bowed.
"Miss, your grandmother requested that the final fitting be prepared before tonight's gala."
The boutique manager suddenly hurried from her office.
Unlike everyone else, she immediately recognized the girl.
"Miss Evelyn."
Every employee straightened.
Every employee.
The shoppers exchanged confused looks.
The woman in gold slowly climbed to her feet.

"Evelyn?" she repeated.
The name sounded familiar.
Then her eyes widened.
The Harrington family.
One of the wealthiest families in the country.
The owners of luxury hotels, fashion brands, and half the buildings downtown.
The manager nodded respectfully.
"Miss Evelyn Harrington."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
The woman's knees nearly gave out.
Because the girl she had mocked wasn't some poor child staring through a window.
She was the sole granddaughter of billionaire Richard Harrington.
The future heir to an empire.
The woman forced a laugh.
"There must be some mistake."
But before anyone could answer, Evelyn finally spoke.
"There isn't."
Her voice remained calm.
Cold.
"You judged me because of my clothes."
The woman swallowed.
Evelyn looked down at her worn sneakers.
"My grandmother taught me something."
She paused.
"Money shows what you own. Character shows who you are."
May you like
The woman's face burned.
And for the first time in years, she had no comeback.
