Chapter 2: The Recording No One Could Erase

Chapter 2: The Recording No One Could Erase
Within minutes, federal forensic investigators sealed the mansion.
No one was allowed to leave.
Phones were collected.
Vehicles were photographed.
Every guest became a witness.
One young female agent handed me Lily's cracked phone.
"It never stopped recording."
She plugged it into specialized equipment.
The audio filled the command vehicle.
Richard's voice echoed through the speakers.
"If you ever tell your father, no one will believe you."
A slap.
Lily crying.
Another impact.
Then his mother.
"Hit her where the bruises won't show."
The room inside the command trailer became perfectly still.
The forensic technician looked up.
"That's conspiracy."
Another recording played.
Richard laughing.
"The Chief will cover everything."
Then the unmistakable voice of the police chief.
"We'll write it up as an accidental fall."
No one spoke.
An FBI supervisor quietly removed his glasses.
"Well..."
"That simplifies things."
Outside, agents recovered bloody fingerprints from crystal glasses, Richard's shirt cuff, and the living room rug.
The bruises on Lily's neck matched the spacing of Richard's hand almost perfectly.
Every lie collapsed under science.
Meanwhile, Richard continued yelling from the driveway.
"You can't prove intent!"
The FBI supervisor smiled faintly.
"We don't have to."
"You already confessed."
When Richard realized the phone had recorded everything...
His confidence finally broke.
May you like
For the first time in his life...
He looked afraid.
