Chapter 2: The Hidden Room

Chapter 2: The Hidden Room
The basement had always been locked.
The stepmother called it “storage.”
But there was no storage in a room that cold.
The husband followed the housekeeper down the stairs, each step heavier than the last. The air grew damp, metallic, wrong.
She pointed to a steel door behind a false wall.
“This was never part of the house’s official blueprint,” she said.
The lock had been recently replaced.
Inside, they found files.
Stacks of them.
Bank transfers. Forged signatures. Surveillance reports.
And names.
People who had disappeared from the company over the years—quietly erased, replaced, silenced.
The husband’s face changed as he read faster.
“This… this isn’t just control,” he whispered.
“It’s a takeover,” the housekeeper said.
Then he found something else.
A recorded video.
He pressed play.
The stepmother’s voice filled the room.
Cold. Calm. Confident.
“If my son ever hesitates, I will remove everything he thinks he owns. Even family.”
The truth settled like a weight in his chest.
This was never just cruelty.

It was strategy.
And his marriage… had been part of it from the beginning.
