The room remained frozen.
No one dared breathe.
The little boy clung tightly to the young maid's neck, his tiny fingers twisting into the fabric of her simple gray uniform as if he feared someone might pull her away.
The billionaire, Jonathan Reed, slowly stood.
His voice was calm.

"How many nights has my son cried for you instead of me?"
The maid lowered her eyes.
"I never counted, sir."
Jonathan frowned.
"I asked you a question."

"Almost every night... since Mrs. Reed passed away."
A painful silence spread through the ballroom.

"Whenever Oliver woke from nightmares, he asked for his mother."
Her voice trembled.
"I couldn't replace her... so I simply stayed beside him until he fell asleep again."
