Chapter 1: The Camera That Never Lied

Chapter 1: The Camera That Never Lied

The silence inside the fire station lasted only a heartbeat.

Then every eye turned toward me.

My cheek burned where Audrey Sinclair's hand had struck me, but I refused to touch it. I slowly bent down and picked up the folder that had fallen from my hands.

"I'm sorry," I said quietly to the firefighters. "The safety equipment was placed in the wrong location."

Audrey laughed loudly.

"Oh, please. She's making things up because she got caught touching equipment she wasn't supposed to."

Several students nodded automatically.

No one wanted to disagree with Audrey.

Before anyone else could speak, Captain Daniel Reeves walked back into the garage.

"What happened here?"

Nobody answered.

Then one firefighter pointed toward the emergency hose cabinet.

"Captain... wasn't that rescue kit over there earlier?"

The captain frowned.

"It was."

His face immediately became serious.

"Who moved it?"

Audrey crossed her arms confidently.

"I think Farah did."

I looked directly at him.

"No, sir. I moved it back."

The captain's expression changed.

"You moved it... back?"

"Yes, sir. It had been relocated so some students could take pictures in front of the truck."

The room became painfully quiet.

Captain Reeves didn't raise his voice.

Instead, he looked up toward the ceiling.

"Perfect."

Everyone looked confused.

Then he pointed.

"Our training garage has security cameras."

Audrey's smile disappeared.
