Chapter 2: The Evidence No One Could Deny

Chapter 2: The Evidence No One Could Deny

The students gathered around the monitor inside the training office.

Captain Reeves replayed the recording.

There was Audrey.

Laughing.

Moving the emergency rescue bag several feet away from its marked position.

Her friends rearranged traffic cones so the fire truck looked cleaner in their photos.

One girl even joked, "Nobody will notice."

Thirty seconds later...

The video showed me quietly walking over.

I looked around.

Picked up the rescue bag.

Returned it to its original spot.

Checked the label twice.

Then walked away.

I never touched anything else.

I never confronted anyone.

I never even looked at Audrey.

Finally, the footage showed Audrey storming toward me.

The slap.

The folder falling.

Every single second.

Nobody spoke after the video ended.

Captain Reeves folded his arms.

"In this department," he said firmly, "equipment placement isn't decoration."

He pointed toward the rescue bag.

"If this were an actual emergency, even a few seconds of delay could cost someone's life."

His eyes settled on Audrey.

"And striking another student because she corrected a dangerous mistake?"

He shook his head.

"That is unacceptable."

Several of Audrey's own friends quietly stepped away from her.

The same people who had laughed with her minutes earlier now couldn't even meet her eyes.

Power built on fear had collapsed in less than five minutes.
